Attractions of Universal Studios Japan.
People who come to Japan from America have probably gone to Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Florida, and Islands of Adventure.
If you are coming from Asia, you may have visited Universal Beijing Resort in China or Universal Studios Singapore in Singapore.
Those who have already experienced the attractions at Universal Studios would like to experience attractions that can only be experienced in Japan.
This article is easy to understand for such people.
Also, some people may experience Universal Studios in Japan for the first time in the world.
If you are trying it out for the first time, we have also compiled a list of attractions that you should definitely try.
Areas of Universal Studios Japan
USJ has an area about the size of nine large baseball fields.
It’s divided into 10 areas, so each area is roughly the size of a baseball field.
There are 30 attractions in a large area.
Some attractions can be enjoyed for more than 20 minutes, so you won’t be able to experience everything in one day.
Therefore, we recommend you to decide in advance which attractions you would like to experience.
There is only one entrance/exit to the park.
On the map above, the red mark is near the entrance.
In the Hollywood area, New York area, and Wonderland, which are close to the entrance, there is an attraction boarding area immediately after entering.
On the other hand, the Jurassic Park area, Water World, and Super Nintendo World, which are farthest from the entrance, takes about 8 to 15 minutes from the entrance gate to the attraction boarding area.
From 2023, Studio Guides (free park information booklets) will no longer be distributed, so please check this article for attraction locations.
Differences in rules between America and Japan
At Universal Studios Japan, almost all attractions are prohibited from taking photos or videos while riding.
Only theYoshi’s Adventure allows you to take pictures while riding.
You cannot shootin others.
What is a greeting?
“Greetings" is taking photos and enjoying commemorative photos with the characters and dancers.
There are some events that have a fixed time, and some events that start suddenly at the canopy (arcade) or next to the entrance gate.
Space Fantasy The Ride
It is a permanent attraction, but the content is mostly limited-time attractions that collaborate with anime and horror movies.

Height: Although you are flying in an airplane above the sky, you may not feel the height.

Ride attraction
When you think of USJ’s attractions, many people think of ride-on attractions.
I will Introduce here those attractions.
Mario Kart ~Bowser’s Challenge~
This is a ride attraction that even kindergarten and elementary school students can enjoy.
It’s the attraction which has the most gaming elements at USJ, and you can record your game with a power-up band. You can check your scores and play status on the official app even when you get home. You can compete with your friends for points and number of missions (stamps) cleared.
Since you play while wearing AR goggles, the real world of Mario and the game images overlap, and you can see shells you shoot bounce off real walls and defeat enemy characters.
This attraction offers a new way to enjoy the theme park.
There are many things to see in the queue, including Bowser’s Library, so be sure to take a look around as you walk .
The course is the same as Mario Kart at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Coins and scores are recorded separately in America and Japan, so they cannot be added up.
Location: Super Nintendo World
Type: Car-shaped ride (indoor)
Duration: Approximately 5 minutes + pre-show + time to walk inside Bowser Castle
Capacity: 4 people (2 people in front and 2 in back) x 4 cars x 2 courses
In rainy weather: Recommended. You won’t get wet in the rain at all.
Height limit: 107cm or more (If you are between 107cm and 121cm, you will need somebody to attend)

Scariness: Small children may be a little scared of Bowser and Teresa (the ghost enemies). If your child is an elementary school student or older, there is no need to worry about it being scary.
Speed: Slow (the video gives a simulated feeling of speed)
Height: Driving on ground only. Height 0m
Feeling Float: None
Motion Sickness: There is a little rotation, but you probably won’t get sick.
Sound: You can hear the BGM and Mario’s voices during the game.
Waiting time: The area is empty as the number of people entering the area is limited.
Special factors: If you have a power-up band, your play history will be recorded. You can enjoy additional things such as collecting stamps and appearing hidden blocks
This is the most popular attraction at Super Nintendo World.
You can realistically experience Mario Kart, which was enjoyed on home game consoles such as the Nintendo Switch.
Since the score is displayed, it is fun to try the challenge many times and try for a high score.
If you purchase a power-up band, you can check your records on your smartphone.
What you can do when you purchase a power-up band
You can defeat Bowser’s team with 100 points (100 coins), but if you want to get an even higher score, you should read the strategy.
Yoshi’s Adventure
This is the most relaxing ride attraction in USJ history.
Even small children can ride it.
This doesn’t exist at Universal Studios Hollywood in America. As of October 2023, this is an attraction that can only be found in Japan.
Look for eggs during your adventure, and when you find them, press the egg button of the same color to get them!
You can also take souvenir photos while enjoying the scenery of Super Nintendo World, so it’s also recommended for dates.
*Please keep in mind that if you drop your smartphone, it will not be returned until the park closes.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem
Transform into a minion with Gru’s rays, and have fun at Gru’s home with senior minions, Agnes, and others.
In the queue, you can enjoy a quiz about the Minions movie, and the first room is Mr. Gru’s room.
In the second room, you can have fun with Gru and Agnes.
This attraction has a long experience time, because you can enjoy the pre-show and ride.
Universal Studios Hollywood, Beijing also has the same attraction.

This is a ride attraction for children.
The minions are pointing freezing guns at you.
Although the ride moves in an unpredictable way, it is not scary.It is easy for small children to ride.
It’s an attraction that can only be found in Japan, but I don’t think you need to come to Japan to ride it, unless you like Minions.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
This is the main attraction in the Harry Potter area.
You can enter Hogwarts Castle and see Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
See sports tournaments, and magical creatures around the school with Harry Potter and his friends flying on broomsticks, using Hermione’s levitation magic.
Even if you have never seen the Harry Potter movies, this attraction is a fun experience if you are interested in wizards.
The content is the same as the attractions at Islands of Adventure in the United States, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Beijing.
However, the realism of Hogwarts Castle and the beauty of the lake in front of the castle give you a sense of quality that can only be found in Japan.
British castles built by the Japanese, who also create beautiful castles like Osaka Castle and Himeji Castle, are worth seeing even if you don’t ride the attractions.

Fly around Hogwarts Castle and the forest with Harry and his friends on a broomstick.
Hogwarts Castle is so realistic that movie fans will love it.
There are many things to enjoy in the Harry Potter area other than ride attractions.
Flight of the Hippogriff™
While queuing for attractions, you can tour the surrounding facilities of Hogwarts Castle. Hagrid’s house, the school’s magical biology teacher, and a two-seater motorcycle.
The attraction is a roller coaster that is easy to ride even for people who don’t like scary things.
During the ride, you can see the scenery of the magical world from a high place, so it is recommended for those who want to enjoy the scenery.

Fly through the sky on a legendary creature! The creature is raised, and said to be born between a griffon and a mare.
In the middle of the queue, there is Hagrid’s house.

The scenery of Hagrid’s house, pumpkins, and surrounding forest in the queue was different between America and Japan.

Jurassic Park The Ride
This is an attraction where you can take a boat trip to a world full of dinosaurs.
It was supposed to be a peaceful dinosaur tour, but trouble began along the way!!
Many people may have seen the scene where the giant dinosaur appears at the end of the TV special.
You’ll fall into the lake and get soaked, so it’s a popular attraction to cool off on hot days.

A popular ride attraction that has been around since the park opened.
This is an exhilarating attraction where you can explore the world of dinosaurs and get wet at the end.
The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man the Ride 4K3D
Become a newspaper reporter and get the scoop on the bad guys attacking the streets of New York.
If you are attacked by an enemy, maybe get help from Spider-Man.
The waiting line is in an old newspaper office, so you can enjoy a tour of where reporters work and the photo development room.
During the ride, there are elements that you can enjoy outside of the main story, such as the hidden Iron Man and the hidden author (Stanley), so please enjoy the ride many times and enjoy discovering various things.
Outside of Japan, it is located at Universal Orlando Resort.
It will close in January 2024, so if you don’t ride it now, you won’t be able to ride it forever.
The content is completely different from the Spider-Man at Disney California Adventure Park.

Hollywood Dream the Ride
It is recommended as the most comfortable roller coaster to ride in Japan, by a man who has ridden all the roller coasters in Japan.
There are no rattling sounds or vibrations like an amusement park roller coaster, and you can enjoy a comfortable journey through the air, just like riding a flying motorcycle.
What makes it unique is that each person can enjoy the roller coaster while listening to their own music of their own choosing from among five songs, so some people ride the roller coaster five times in one day.
The lineup of songs changes depending on the season, so you won’t be able to listen to the same songs forever, so you’ll want to listen to them when you can.

There used to be Jaws at Universal Orlando Resort, but now it is the only attraction in the world that can only be found in Japan.
It will be renewed during maintenance in 2022, making it even more impressive than before.
The captain’s talk is unique and one of the reasons why you can enjoy the ride no matter how many times you ride.

Water World™
This is an impressive show where you can watch the impressive stunt scenes from movies performed by stuntmen live in front of your eyes.
Battles using personal watercraft and fighting scenes. A plane is flying. There are many amazing performances that can’t be seen at other amusement parks, such as big explosions, and this show has many repeat visitors.
The story takes place in a world where sea levels have risen due to global warming and the land has disappeared.
The pre-show performance that takes place before the show starts, is often improvised and is so entertaining that there are many repeat visitors who are expecting a different performance each time, so we recommend going earlier than the show starts.
Universal Studios Hollywood has the same attraction. The content is the same, but Japan has a lot more audience seats.
Buildings that can be seen in the United States are not visible in Japan, but thereis a dry land?? (Super Nintendo World) is visible.

A live rock show performed by graveyard monsters.
Beetlejuice, the moderator, interacts with the audience with funny ad-lib talks like an old man from Osaka, which is very interesting and popular.
You can enjoy the beauty of the singer’s handsome men, and the cuteness and beauty of the women.
It’s a show that you can not only watch, but also enjoy together.
They talk in Japanese, but the songs will be sung in English, so it will be fun and exciting.
